Students constructed a crane to help resuce Rapunzel from the tower. A magnet on the crane secures Rapunzel and lowers her to safety!

  Description
Students in Mrs. Ancira's fourth grade class designed and constructed solutions to problems in popular fairy tales. Students worked at the Inventor Level in ROBOLAB and combined a variety of materials with LEGO pieces.

  Procedure

1. Conduct a literature study of famous fairy tales such as Rapunzel and The Three Little Pigs. Students may work in groups with a story they have chosen.

  2. Determine an important problem from the story. Design a robotic solution on graph paper.

  3. Build the solution according to the design. Use a variety of materials such as cardboard, wood, paint, and plastic containers.

4. Test and revise the robot. Decorate the chosen scene for the problem and solution.

  5. Each group should type a project description, main characters, story problem, setting, solution, and summary.

6. Create a display board to post all information and designs.

Students constructed a magnetic pulley to save Peter Pan from Captain Hook's ship. Peter Pan is able to push Captain Hook into the water before escaping!

Students created a wrecking ball to help the Big Bad Wolf knock down the house made from bricks!
